Week of January 28th, 2019

“Dear Everyone,

On Friday the owls went to the Manchester public library where we learned about how libraries are organized, run and why we need libraries. Thank you so much Manchester library for answering all our questions! The eagles were visited by Shawn Harrington from the Manchester historical society. Shawn told us about Manchester in the civil war. We were all surprised to learn that our school building was here during the civil war. Thank you so much Shawn!

“This week we did a video chat with Adam, he served 3 tours in Iraq. We asked a bunch of questions about him, the military, and Iraq. I learned a lot and it was super duper interesting. My favorite part was when he said that they used Xbox controllers to fly homing missiles. It was tons of fun and I can’t wait until Adam visits again.”-Kelley

“This week we play a new game. It is called Smaug’s Jewels. We played it in P.E. It is fun to play because someone says a word, then if it is right to you, then you run to the “jewels” under the dragon. Then you try to grab the jewels. If you get it, then you become the Smaug.”-Colby

“The school has a rain day last week at home. The roads were slippery. I played.”-Caleb

“The ice is slippery. I liked that the ice is slippery. The ICE!”-Mischa

“This week we got our civil outline for our Civil War project. An outline is what you are going to do for your project. Our projects are something we do to represent the civil war. For example, I’m doing a trifold about Ulysses S. Grant. I really think I’m going to like it.”-Cian

“Last week Shawn Harrington from the Manchester Historical Society came, and told us about Manchester in the civil war! Oh, did you know that my house really famous in those times? A poet actually lived there and she met Ulysses S. Grant in my living room! Shawn actually showed me a picture of her standing at my front door. It’s like living in the back yard of history.”-Zooey

“The owls built Lumi’s cage last weekend at school for Lumi with a screwdriver.”-Charlie

“This week we made a lot of snow-forts. First, we made a completely sick snow fort near the road, but there were too many people, so it broke. Next we went to a different snow bank and made an even BETTER fort. This one was a battle fort, so we had super amazing escape rooms and snowfall holders. It was cool when it lasted, but it rained and wrecked literally everything. We were really bummed and had to wait for it snow, but it when it snowed, boy did it snow! We chose the least icy spot, but it was still really hard. At one point last week we were getting ice out of the creek, and we used a stick that we named the “Mohonka”. It was a complete monster! So anyway, we named our fort “Castle Von Mohonka”. It was a luxury hotel, so you know hot tub, comfy beds, blah, blah, blah. We had different jobs and different ranks. It was really organized. We had a lot of seats in the back and a long couch in the front. It was going great, so I sent everyone on a vacation to the Mohonka ski resort, where Kelley and Cole were working. After people got bored, they worked on a beach resort called “Mohonka by the Bay”, but we weren’t supposed to be by the creek so we got kicked out. It was really fun and I can’t wait to keep building.”-Eden

“This week me and Kelley are making a ski jump. We were pulling a sled around. Then we thought, what if we make a ski-jump. We shoveled and shoveled and we compacted the snow. When it is done it’s going to look amazing. It was fun to make the ski jump. The end.”-Cole

“My dad bought us ukuleles. We’re using them for music class. I know how to play ukulele. They are smaller than guitars. In conclusion I’m happy to learn more.”-Rebecca (THANK YOU SO MUCH ANDREW!)

“I did my 100 day project yesterday at school for the 100th day. I draw animals.”-Gabriel

“We played Smaug’s Jewels.”-Ryder

“Grandma Margot is touring us tomorrow at the post office. We are going to learn.”-Abby (Thank you Margot for showing us around!)
